Play and feasts around the palace

You’ve already got your ticket to the Lower Austria State Exhibition 2022? Excellent! The “MARCHFELD Secrets” exhibition offers plenty of exciting mysteries for children and teenagers. If you book a guided family tour, you will benefit twofold. This special guided tour focusses on young visitors. You really should pay the stork family a visit! It’s quite an experience to approach the stork colony and observe the proud storks up close.
Such adventures and experiences are no doubt impressive, but they will also make you hungry. Your next port of call should therefore be Schlossbuffet Maywald in Marchegg, right there on the palace grounds. It offers ample refreshments for adventurers young and old. In pleasant weather, the picnic meadow is the perfect place for a short break. Children will immediately spot the small playground in the palace park, where they can play and recharge their batteries. But don’t play too hard – there’s still a lot to discover!

Follow the rangers through Donau-Auen National Park

Next stop: Schloss Orth, Donau-Auen National Park. The gateway to the wetlands is also the gateway to a magical paradise, a place where the Danube laps at an almost unspoiled environment full of natural wildlife. How about a canoeing trip in the evening? Climb into the rocking canoe with the rangers and immerse yourself in nature. As you slowly drift along the branches of the Danube, crepuscular and nocturnal animals begin to stir. Which animals can you spot? Who owns those furry ears over there in the bushes? And who is paddling through the water in front of you? Your children will definitely remember this canoeing tour for a long time. Canoeing makes you hungry, so Humers Uferhaus is the logical next stop. This charming inn offers a gorgeous view of the Danube as well as excellent food – including special fish dishes that are freshly prepared every day according to granny’s original recipes. In a word: This is the perfect way to round off a perfect day with your family.

Here’s looking at you, kid! Alpacas on the Marchfeld

Do your children love animals? Then they’ll love this outing. In Goissenbrunn you can make friends with a real alpaca. The Marchfeldmühle alpaca experience is an unforgettable highlight. But take care, these soft and furry animals with huge, dark eyes are real heartbreakers. There’s an Andean saying: “If you look into the eyes of an alpaca for too long, you will be fascinated by it forever.” Hike through the vastness of the Marchfeld and see your children making friends with these gentle creatures. And come back soon if one of your children should lose their heart to these cuddly camels of the Andes. You might also want to pick up a small souvenir at the “Wollstübchen” store. After your hike, you can recruit your strength with authentic Austrian food and delicious sweet dishes at the inn Am Langen Weg. Would this be a family day to your taste? Great! Fun for all ages at Gänserndorf Adventure Park

Children of almost all ages can demonstrate their skills in the forest climbing park, board the adventure playground, race on the go-kart course, or get a good laugh out of the wellington boot throwing game. Small children can meet cuddly four-legged friends at the petting zoo, and the pony rides are very popular as well. Older kids can practice archery on the bow-hunting safari, play laser tag, or visit the exciting “virtuality room”. A highlight for any child is llama trekking. Leading, petting and feeding will quickly create a bond between the young llama leaders and their sensitive companions. In some cases, this bond may even deepen into friendship!
After a fun and eventful day, your stomach is probably rumbling. Luckily, the Heuriger tavern Storch in Gänserndorf is just around the corner. Whether you prefer to eat in the cosy restaurant or in the charming garden under the vines: the local specialities made from regional ingredients will taste twice as good after a day at the adventure park.

Wild swimming and WWF Nature Reserve: there’s so much to discover!
