Secret forces of nature:

Pristine nature

The Marchfeld is wild in the best sense of the word. It is a playground for storks and beavers, iridescent kingfishers and sturdy Konik horses. In fact, its animal inhabitants have helped shape the Marchfeld as it looks today: after the Last Glacial Period, the hearty appetite of aurochs, wild horses and elks thinned out pastures on the Marchfeld, thus creating new habitat for other animals, which became the hunting prey of early humans.

All these species felt right at home in the Marchfeld’s mosaic of habitats. No wonder! The herb-rich meadows, loose scrublands, feather grass steppes and river landscapes bear witness to nature’s creativity.

Delve into the wild lands of our ancestors!
